Coup attacks: Government receives 100,000 complaints – 01/23/2023 – Power

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security has already received more than 100,000 complaints about people who may have participated in some way in the coup attacks against the headquarters of the three Powers, in Brasília.

The material has been sent to the email [email protected], created by Minister Flávio Dino (Justice) as one of the responses to the attempt on January 8, when supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) vandalized the Palace do Planalto, Congress and the Federal Supreme Court.

According to Marivaldo Pereira, secretary of Access to Justice and responsible for analyzing the content, the information is being examined and forwarded to the Federal Police.

“We are going to analyze it intelligently, prioritizing funders, organizers, people who were actually present at the place and destroyed historical heritage, public heritage”, says Marivaldo.

“We are using tools to make filters and select the information that, at this moment, can help us in a strategic way. What seems consistent, we forward it to the PF, which carries out the investigation to confirm or not the complaint”, says the secretary .

Many of the messages received by the ministry contain additional elements, such as WhatsApp prints with the call for the coup act and pix. Others bring less solid hints, such as email addresses or just names.

Based on these contents, the secretariat makes a first screening to speed up the process, but does not rule out any complaints. At first, the names identified by the folder have been kept confidential.

“That’s because there are names with arrest warrants being processed, there are names with lawsuits, so it’s good not to divulge them so as not to expose and not to disturb the investigations”, says Marivaldo.

The complaints go hand in hand with the work being done by the police and the judiciary since Sunday (8).

Last Friday (20th), for example, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, concluded the analysis of the situation of those arrested for involvement in the attacks. Of the 1,406 detainees, 942 had their prison in flagrante delicto converted into preventive (with no set period) and 464 obtained provisional release, through precautionary measures.

Regarding those who had their prison converted, the minister assessed that “there was a flagrant affront to the maintenance of the democratic rule of law, in clear disagreement with the guarantee of freedom of expression”.

He considered that there was evidence in the records of the effective participation of those investigated in a criminal organization that acted to try to destabilize republican institutions.

“It is very important that those people who committed these crimes, who financed, who organized these crimes, are duly punished, so that we don’t have to spend four years dealing with this kind of thing”, says Marivaldo.

On the day of the attack, the security forces were slow to act, which facilitated the arrival of vandals to public buildings and made it difficult to arrest many of them in the act.

“It shouldn’t have been a problem for the Federal District police. I’ve been to demonstrations here in the past. We couldn’t enter the Esplanada with a flagpole, we couldn’t enter with a drink can, there was a backpack search”, he says. the Secretary for Access to Justice.

The vandalism led President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to decree federal intervention in the security area of ​​the Federal District.
