Costa Neto may be investigated over proposals to prevent inauguration

After statements by the President of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, on proposals for actions that would not recognize the result of the elections having reached him and former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Senator Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES), leader of the PT in the Senate, addressed to the President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, a request for an investigation into the case. In an interview with the newspaper, Costa Neto made it clear that he rejected the proposals and that Bolsonaro, even under pressure from his own base, also declared that he would not do anything outside the law. According to the party leader, several proposals to trigger a coup act reached him and the former president. The proposals would circulate among people in the government, raising alternatives so that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) would not be sworn in.

“I never commented, but I received several proposals, which came by post, which I received at a political event. There were people who put (the paper) in my pocket, saying it was like removing Lula from the government. Lawyers sent me how to do it using article 142, but everything was outside the law. I was careful to grind. I saw that I had no conditions, and Bolsonaro did not want to do anything outside the law. The pressure on him was barbaric,” he declared.

Statements inflame petistas

With the repercussion of the statements, PT senator Fabiano Contarato asked the STF to investigate the president of the PL and investigate the circulation of coup minutes among government members and people around Bolsonaro, reported the newspaper on Saturday (28).

In addition, the senator wants Valdemar Costa Neto to testify to the Federal Police. For him, the destruction of the papers that would constitute proof of the proposals rejected by the president of the PL could constitute a crime for “destroying, suppressing or hiding, for one’s own benefit or that of others, or to the detriment of others, a true public or private document, which could not be dispose”.

In the political arena, the statement reverberated with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who told O Globo that he had never received similar proposals. “If he received it, I didn’t receive it,” he said, contradicting the PL president’s statements.
