Correios will even sell funeral insurance to survive – 05/08/2023 – Panel SA

President Lula canceled the privatization of Correios, but gave lawyer Fabiano Silva dos Santos the mission of transforming the state-owned company and reversing the nearly billionaire loss.

Since the centrão advanced in the government in search of power, the president of the state-owned company has been under fire from parties that target his position.

Lula removed Correios from the privatization list, but how to transform it into a profitable company?
We have a constitutional mission to deliver letters, a business that is in decline around the world. At the other end, the private service, deliveries, was in decline in the past management, which was preparing the company for sale. We lost deliveries to Market Livre, Shopee, Amazon. They were big customers and they were withdrawing our cargo because they were creating their own logistics or looking for a better price.

Are you going to speed up this business to make up for the postal service deficit?
We are closing partnerships with these marketplaces. We have a valuable asset because we are in every municipality, we do the last mile [das entregas]. They do not. We also thought about turning Correios into a marketplace.

What would they sell?
We entered into a partnership with Apex-Brasil and Shopee to carry out an export test for ten Brazilian products that will be sold on their Singapore marketplace. We thought about doing the same thing in China. There, the result of sales in Brazil can easily be multiplied by twenty. Sebrae Nacional is also closing a partnership with us focused on exports.

But this is export. What would they sell at the Post Office?
La Poste, in France, sells insurance, operates a marketplace and a series of other products linked to the postal activity. Perhaps this will monetize the agencies [dos Correios]. This will go well, come up with insurance for classes C, D, E at a competitive price. We are going to work with CNP Assurance on a specific product, which won the bid. It is controlled by La Poste. There, this sale already guarantees 20% of their revenue.

What insurance will they sell? Of life?
Even to death. It’s expensive to die [custo do enterro e velório). Seguro para roubos de pequenos artigos, como o celular, por exemplo. Para um trabalhador, isso tem peso.

Haverá outros negócios?

O lema aqui é parcerias. Não só com iniciativa privada. Estamos fechando acordo com o INSS. Nossas agências funcionarão como postos de atendimento na garantia de acesso a pessoas que têm dificuldade. Gente que precisa atravessar um rio e não sabe como pedir uma aposentadoria, por exemplo.

Na Correios Celular, parceria operada pela Surf Telecom, tem uma previsão dentro do contrato para a gente incrementar essa receita.

Não parece ser um plano de quem deixará o cargo.

Não sou uma pessoa que estava na Politics. Não vim de um cargo público. A missão que o presidente deu foi muito clara. Ele disse: ‘você vai fortalecer os Correios e modernizar a empresa’. O nosso foco é esse. Para isso, não dá tempo de parar para ficar pensando nessas outras coisas.
