Brazil is expected to reach the record mark of 132 million tons of corn in this 2022/23 crop. After a production of 30 million in the summer crop, the winter one has the potential for 102 million.

Estimates are from Agroconsult, which predicts Mato Grosso surpassing 50 million tons in the off-season for the first time. The numbers are impressive, but the consulting analysts warn of some difficulties that they should bring.

First, how to use this corn internally. According to Agroconsult’s calculations, Brazil should consume 80.4 million tons, 8.2% more than the previous harvest. The protein industry, on the rise, has a larger volume, while the ethanol sector, which has been expanding, will process at least 13.6 million tons of cereal.

The second challenge will be logistical. The country will have to manage the record storage of soybeans, most of which are still in warehouses, along with corn. The great corn production potential, however, opens doors for an export of 54.1 million tons, according to the consultancy’s estimates.

The volume of corn exports, however, will pose yet another major challenge for the ports, which will also receive record volumes of soybeans, soy bran and sugar.

The second corn crop, which started late due to the late soybean harvest, has a guaranteed production potential of 85% in Mato Grosso and 68% in Goiás, important producing states.
Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul, however, can still be strongly influenced by the climate. According to Agroconsult, at least 20 million tons are still at risk of losses in these regions.

The delay in planting corn meant that at least 728,000 hectares were not sown. As a result, the crop area, forecast at 17.4 million hectares in January by the consultancy, was 16.7 million, according to this month’s estimate.

we are not there yet The Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, said this Monday (22), on the Roda Viva program, from Culture, that the country supplies 35% of the chicken meat consumed in the world. In fact, this percentage refers to the volume of global transactions.

to the numbers World exports are 13.5 million tons. Brazil, which produces 14 million, places 4.8 million on the international market. The world consumption of poultry meat is 101 million tons.

fast pace Average soybean exports on working days this month amount to 696 thousand tons, a volume well above the 484 thousand tons of May 2022. The average price this year, however, is 16% lower than that of the same period last year.

weak pace Corn exports, on the other hand, dropped to an average of 10.7 thousand tons per working day this month, well below the 49.5 thousand of last year. Cereal prices, however, are 10% higher, according to data from Secex (Secretary of Foreign Trade).
