Coritiba joins other SAF’s by “third way” for new league

O coritiba joined with three other clubs managed as Sociedades Anônimas do Futebol (SAF) to create a “third way” with an eye on the creation of the new Brazilian football league. In addition to Coxa, the group is formed by Cruzeiro, Botafogo and Vasco.

The purpose of the merger is to reconcile initiatives brought by LIBRA and Liga Forte Futebol, the other two currents. According to the new group, it was easier to form a new union to discuss rules for the new product of Brazilian football. They position themselves at the “center” of discussions.

New league: division of revenue generated split between clubs

The main point of divergence between the first groups is the revenue sharing model. LFF wants an immediate balance in television quotas, while LIBRA proposes a gradual evolution in values, which in the future may once again have a large discrepancy in revenues between clubs of greater versus lesser expression.

Some of the points for the new league, defended by Coritiba, are the reduction of relegation from four to three clubs; the implementation of fair play Finance with adjustments to models already tested in Europe; and, finally, the governance of the league, which is the sole responsibility of the clubs.

Coxa was part of the LFF, along with 25 other clubs, which signed an agreement with Serengetti Asset Management and Life Capital Partners.

The proposal for Liga Forte Futebol was for values ​​of up to R$ 4.85 billion, for 50 years of the championship, for a 20% share of future revenues during the duration of the partnership. The new Coritiba group intends to sign a separate contract with Serenguetti and LCP.

The other was the dispute between different actors who are more concerned with their own agendas than with the future of football in the country.

We decided to stand independently and respectfully at the center. It is with great joy that we announce that Botafogo, Coritiba, Cruzeiro and Vasco da Gama now form a unified group to sign a separate contract with Serenguetti and LCP.

With the formation of our group, we sought to combine the economic benefits offered by LFF funders with the governance initiatives that previously seemed possible with LIBRA. In the end, we found that it made it much easier for us to form a new group, with a blank slate on which we could write and discuss the rules of our new league and define the product we should present to the world.

We invite all clubs to put historical differences aside and bring their best ideas to the center with us, in support of the principles of evolution of Brazilian football.

Here are our principles for the formation of the future new Brazilian league:

– The Governance of the League will be exclusively the responsibility of the Clubs, with representation of each Club on the Board of Directors.

– Media Co leadership will be a separate collaboration between the League and the Strategic Finance Partner.

– Implementation of Financial Fair Play with adjustments to address deficiencies in mechanisms widely tested in Europe.

– Establishment of minimum standards for facilities and playing surfaces, aiming to achieve parity with the highest standards in world football.

– Direct management of match officials and referees, in collaboration with the CBF, including education and accountability standards.

– Relegation and promotion of only 3 clubs per division, following the world standard and providing greater stability to the Brazilian product in the market.

– Research and development of advanced technologies to position Brazil as a world leader in the quality of the television experience and efficiency in the global distribution of content.

– Creation of commercial properties controlled by the Clubs, to be explored individually by each club, following the European standard.

– Sale of commercial and media rights with appropriate valuation.

Finally, valuing our conversations with good friends on both sides, we will continue to work tirelessly to create a unified league through open dialogue with all clubs.”
