On the night that Cássio became the goalkeeper with the most penalties saved with a Corinthians shirt, the alvinegro team won Remo this Wednesday (26) and advanced to the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil.
In normal time, the Corinthian team won by 2-0, returning the score by which they had lost the first game, in Belém. Adson, in the first minute of the opening stage, and Róger Guedes, in second-half stoppage time, scored the goals at Neo Química Arena.
On penalties, Cássio saved Leonan’s kick and Corinthians won by 5 to 4. In all, the goalkeeper has already taken 28 charges, 14 of them in disputes like this Wednesday’s. The current alvinegro goalkeeper leaves behind the also legendary Ronaldo Giovanelli, who defended 27.
After the victory, Corinthians players ran towards coach Cuca, in a show of support for the commander. “Cuca has been fighting to help. We are together and we have a lot to improve with him”, stated Cássio to SporTv.
Since he was hired, the Parque São Jorge club has been the target of a series of protests.
The reason is the case of sexual violence registered in Switzerland in 1987. At the time, the Paraná player was a Grêmio player and was arrested alongside three companions. Tried and convicted, he did not serve the sentence stipulated for the crime, which he prescribed, but the case has surfaced since his arrival at the alvinegro team.
When he was presented, on Friday (21), under protests, the coach said he was innocent and said that the victim, a girl who was 13 at the time, did not recognize him as one of the aggressors. This Tuesday (25), however, the lawyer who represented her refuted this version.
In a week that needed to reverse the disadvantage against Remo and even with a classic against Palmeiras, at the weekend, for the Brazilian Championship, the Corinthians board, under the command of Duílio Monteiro Alves, chose to ignore the fans who reject the figure of the technician.
This Wednesday, when Cuca’s name appeared on the screen at Neo Química Arena, some of the fans booed. Once the game started, however, the protests in the stadium ceased.
Before the match, there was a kind of pact between the club’s organized fans, even those opposed to Cuca’s arrival, they gave a truce to support the team against Remo.
During the 90 minutes, what prevailed was an atmosphere of apprehension with the need for the team to seek a turnaround on the aggregate scoreboard. Adson’s goal right at the start boosted the Corinthians’ confidence, but the relief came only after the penalties.

At Maracanã, Flamengo thrashed Maringá by 8 to 2. With the great performance in front of its fans, the rubro-negro team reversed the disadvantage of the first leg, when it lost away from home by 2 to 0.
