Contest in SP: government launches public notice for teachers – 05/11/2023 – Education

The government of São Paulo published this Thursday (11) a notice for a public tender that will hire 15,000 effective teachers to work in approximately 3,500 state schools in São Paulo. The state had not opened a selection process for basic education teachers for nine years.

The starting salaries are BRL 5,000 (40 hours a week) and BRL 3,125 (25 hours a week).

Last year, one of the main problems faced by schools was the lack of teachers. In addition to the lack of staff being hired for almost a decade, new educational policies have increased the students’ workload, putting even more pressure on the demand for these professionals.

In the last nine years, new professors were only hired on a temporary basis, that is, they could only stay in the position for up to two years. According to data from the secretariat itself, of the 216.8 thousand teachers in the network, 96.7 thousand are temporary (44.6% of the total).

The public tender was authorized in early 2022, still under the management of former governor João Doria, but the public notice was only launched this Thursday by the management of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

Registration for the public tender begins on Monday (15) and runs until June 12. They can be done on the Vunesp website.

Candidates will take an objective test and a discursive one, which will take place on August 6. The event also provides for the submission of technical proof in video class format and titles for classification.

Candidates must choose their discipline, and it is possible to enroll in one or two disciplines, as long as they are at different times.

The tests take place at two times, depending on the subject chosen, in the morning: arts, biology, history, physical education, Portuguese, mathematics and philosophy. And in the afternoon: science, physics, geography, English, chemistry, sociology and special education.

The registration fee is BRL 40 for a single course option and BRL 60 for two. Blood donors are exempt. Students and low-income people can apply for a fee reduction. Both cases require prior proof, according to the criteria of the public notice.

Upon registration, the candidate must indicate, in order of preference, seven Boards of Education for admission purposes. If, after the contest is held, there are no vacancies available in the indicated Teaching Boards, the candidate may apply for a vacancy in the other Teaching Boards, according to their classification.
