Online retailer Shopee estimates that the average consumer has gained confidence in the economy
Online retailer Shopee estimates that the average consumer has gained confidence in the economy since October, indicating that the last quarter of 2023 should be better than the previous one in this regard.
The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) measured by the company, which uses the same methodology as the ICC of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) but with national coverage, grew five points between September and November, going from 107 to 112 points. Between July and September, the movement was the opposite, falling from 112 to 107 points — thus pointing to a recovery.
The positive highlight of the last measurement was the southern region of the country, whose consumer confidence increased by 9 points in November, reaching 121 points, above the national average. The Northeast also showed a significant improvement in November, by 5.2 points, reaching 110.9 points and surpassing the Southeast region, which remained stable at 110.3 points.
According to the Shoppe study, the lower the Brazilian consumer’s monthly income, the greater their insecurity regarding the economy. Among those with a monthly income of up to R$2,100, confidence does not reach 100 points. Among those who receive between R$2,100 and R$4,800, it reaches 123.7 points.
