Minister refers to fraud in the SUS vaccination card

Brasilia DF) – The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, defended the investigative work carried out by the Federal Police (PF) that culminated in the outbreak, today (3), of Operation Venire, which investigates the alleged adulteration of vaccination cards by inserting of false data in the Unified Health System (SUS) database. One of the targets of the action is former president Jair Bolsonaro.

“Conspiracy against public health is a [forma de] very serious corruption,” said the minister while participating in a meeting of the Financial Inspection and Control Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

According to the PF, the investigated teamed up to insert false information regarding vaccination against covid-19 in the Information System of the National Immunization Program (SI-PNI), of the Ministry of Health, and in the National Health Data Network (Rnds ).

“With this, such people were able to issue the respective vaccination certificates and use them to circumvent the current health restrictions imposed by public authorities (in Brazil and in the United States) aimed at preventing the spread of contagious disease, in this case, the coronavirus pandemic. covid-19”, says the PF Communication Coordination, in a note released this morning.

According to the PF, the investigated facts constitute, in theory, crimes such as infraction of preventive health measure, criminal association, insertion of false data in information systems and corruption of minors. And they took place between November 2021 and December 2022.

In the assessment of Minister Flávio Dino, if confirmed, the fraud could negatively impact confidence in the Brazilian health system. “The issue of health [nacional] is achieved to the extent that there are weaknesses such as those evidenced [hoje]. Of course, the minister [da Saúde]Nísia Trindade, will take measures to further protect these systems that, according to the PF, were defrauded”, pondered Dino.

In a note, the Ministry of Health reported that it has been collaborating with police investigations since the beginning. In addition, the folder assured that there is, so far, no report of external invasion of the SI-PNI and Rnds systems, and that all information related to SUS immunization records is made through registration, and can be tracked.
