Flamengo will participate, in February, in the Club World Cup, to be played in Morocco. If it depends on the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), the club will have an extra incentive to win the title.
In a tweet published on Monday (16), the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, promised to pay a prize of US$ 5 million dollars, equivalent to just over R$ 25 million, to the club in case of a title.
“South America wants more sporting glory! Conmebol will grant an additional prize of USD 5,000,000 to Libertadores champions Flamengo if they win the Club World Cup. It is a strong incentive for the representative of our continent in this tournament”, he said on Twitter.
The Club World Cup starts on February 1st, with the confrontation between Al-Ahly, from Egypt, and Auckland City, from New Zealand.
Flamengo debuts on the 7th, against the winner of the confrontation between Wydad Casablanca, from Morocco, and Al-Hilal, from Saudi Arabia.
The seven participants in this year’s edition are: Flamengo, Real Madrid, Al Hilal, Wydad Casablanca, Seattle Sounders, Auckland City and Al-Ahly.
This will be Flamengo’s third participation in the Club World Cup. The team was champion in 1981, and lost the title in 2019, both games against Liverpool.
