Conmebol calls Globo, SBT and ESPN to sell Copa América – 07/15/2023 – Television

Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) started last Monday (10) the competition process for the rights to broadcast the 2024 Copa América, which will be held in the United States. The entity promises to solve the whole situation this month in the Brazilian market. The following broadcasters were invited: Globo, SBT, Paramount and ESPN.
The four showed interest in participating, according to the F5. All intermediation has been carried out by the Japanese agency Dentsu. Broadcasters now need to send a financial proposal with a detailed coverage plan by the next 21st, at 7 pm (Brasília time), via the e-mail provided in the announcement.
In the document to which the report had access, Conmebol and Dentsu will open the proposals sent by the communication groups on the 24th of July. If the financial proposals are satisfactory, the winners will be announced on the 27th, with the signing of the game transfer contract taking place shortly afterwards.
The sales format will be the same as for the 2021 Copa America, held in Brazil. The open TV package of the national team competition, which begins in June, includes the Brazilian national team’s games, the semifinals, in addition to the opening and final matches, even if the Brazilian national team is not in it.
Pay TV or streaming platforms will have rights to broadcast all games in the tournament. ESPN is already considering a robust proposal, due to the strategy of Disney, owner of the sports channel, to strengthen itself in the South American market. Conmebol started selling the tournament to Latin America as well, while also offering it in Brazil.
On open TV, Globo and SBT have expressed their desire to broadcast the tournament and are already preparing their proposals. In the last Copa América, the event was acquired by Silvio Santos’ broadcaster for US$ 6 million (R$ 28.7 million at current quotations). Globo could not make proposals because it was broken with the entity, due to the termination of the Libertadores contract in 2020.
