Comel in the Community Program supports sports social projects – News of Brazil

The Municipal Coordination of Sport and Leisure (Eat) launched the Comel na Comunidade program last weekend. The purpose of the initiative is to support social projects that serve the socially vulnerable public in Macapá. And this Wednesday (19), the portfolio’s entourage visited the social project Socorro Correa.
“The goal is to be close to the population, that is, in addition to supporting sports material, our management has been working with the community to understand their needs and find out how we can provide more assistance”comments the coordinator of Comel, Bruno Church.
The Socorro Correa social project serves children aged 5 to 14 years. Good school performance is one of the criteria for remaining in the program. Young people who stand out in the sports offered are included in Guarany Atlético Clube – a Brazilian amateur football club from Macapá, which this April celebrates its 68th anniversary.
“We decided to celebrate the club’s anniversary with this social action and delivery of basic food baskets to parents and guardians of young people who are part of the Socorro Correa project, a way to help these families who are socially vulnerable and need support”explains the president of the social project, Luiz Correa.
For housewife Maria de Sousa, including her son in sports is a way of helping him with his education at home and even at school. “My son has dedicated himself more and more to his school life and will no doubt be a great athlete. At home he is more helpful and attentive. I am grateful for the project that, in addition to sport, works on the social side, this basket, for example, will help a lot at home”he said.
