Comedian denounced by Tabata Amaral for joke is fired from job

The comedian Bruno Lambert, who last month was denounced to the São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office by federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) for alleged discrimination against disabled people in one of his jokes, was fired this Wednesday (9) from a job at a bank where he had been for nine years due to the repercussions of the case.

The parliamentarian’s criminal representation is related to a video of a presentation by the comedian, who is not famous and does not live exclusively from comedy, published on his social networks in which he narrated a case in which he would have had a sexual relationship with a woman in a wheelchair.

In the complaint, Tabata said that Lambert committed capacitism, which is discrimination against people with disabilities, and that the comedian’s lines denoted “latent machismo” due to the “explicit” and “joking” way in which he described the narrative of the sexual relationship.

A People’s Gazettethe comedian denied the alleged capacitism and highlighted that the joke was told in an environment suitable for humor and that the most diverse groups are portrayed in shows of stand up. “People are having enormous difficulty in differentiating the CPF of the character that is there on stage, in understanding what is a joke and what is reality”, he said.

Regarding the dismissal, Bruno Lambert said that the pressure began as soon as articles narrating the complaint began to emerge, on February 16, until it culminated in the loss of his job. After the dismissal, the comedian went to social networks to lament the consequences of the negative exposure from the complaint. See the note in full:

Today I was FIRED and I don’t believe it’s a coincidence, I believe it’s another CHARGE for being a comedian and the exposure that the congresswoman gave me with the complaint ended up anticipating this CHARGE. Beauty, ok, it’s part of it and that a new cycle begins.
