Colonel Jean Lawand says he asked Bolsonaro to appease the country after the elections

In his testimony before the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) on January 8 this Tuesday (27), Army Colonel Jean Lawand Junior, former Deputy Chief of Staff, denied on several occasions having asked Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant to Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in WhatsApp conversations, to convince the former president to lead a coup d’état through military intervention or a state of siege.

“At no time did I speak about a coup and I never attacked democracy”, Lawand told the members of the collegiate.

Questioned by the different phrases collected by the Federal Police (PF) in the messages exchanged between the colonel and Mauro Cid and accused by government parliamentarians of lying, Lawand explained that his intention was to ask Bolsonaro to seek peace in the country after the demonstrations against the result of the elections.

“I asked for a demonstration by the president to come so that people could return to their homes,” he said.

According to him, it is impossible to attribute to the former president responsibility for the vandalism in Praça dos Três Poderes. However, he hoped that a farsighted manifestation from him would lead people to resume their lives.
