Manaus (AM) – During the Grand Expedient this Tuesday (27), one of the subjects that guided the debates between the councilors of the Manaus City Council (CMM), in the Adriano Jorge plenary session, was safety in municipal public transport.
The subject was once again much discussed among parliamentarians due to an attempt to rob the 678 bus on Avenida Autaz Mirim, in the Tancredo Neves neighborhood, on the east side of the capital, on Monday afternoon (26). During the crime, the 56-year-old bus driver was hit by the criminals with knife strikes on his hand and shoulder.
Councilman Lissandro Breval (Avante) pointed out actions that can be carried out by the Municipal Parliament.
“We need to vote on our panic button project, nº 262/2021. I have already visited cities that have applications that are very close to the panic button, including other implementations, and it already has results, with a reduction of more than 70% in the number of robberies, a safer population, safer public transport”,
he said.
The action of Manaus City Hall, through the Municipal Guard, in the city’s bus terminals, which are also targets of robbery and theft, was suggested by councilor Jaildo Oliveira (PCdoB).
“There are robberies inside T3, T4, inside T5, T2, T1, in these terminals (by bus) the City Hall could enter. Those prepared municipal guards, who were trained, went through the training, could work inside these terminals too, because the presence, sometimes, of a guard, a policeman, inhibits the robbery”,
stressed the parliamentarian.
Councilman Capitão Carpê (Republicans) recalled the bus robbery, which took place in December 2021, which had as a victim of robbery – robbery followed by death – the 20-year-old indigenous young man Melquisedeque Santos, who was returning home from work at the time. of crime.
The parliamentarian emphasized the work of the 20th Community Interactive Company (Cicom), in the area of Torquato Tapajós, in the north of the city, where Melchizedek died.
“The Military Police, through the 20th Cicom, created a fixed barrier called Operation Turnstile. And during public transport hours, approaches to public transport”,
declared.
In addition to security on buses in the capital, the parliamentarians also dedicated their speaking time to debates focused on infrastructure and the creation of a fiscal recovery program in Manaus.
