Clubs sign contract to sell Serie B rights until 2026

The clubs of Serie B accepted the proposal to sell the rights to broadcast the competition for the next four years. The agreement was closed with Brax, after a unanimous decision at a meeting held this Thursday (9), at the CBF.
The contract involves the rights of Série B until 2026 and will yield a payment of BRL 210 million in the first year.
The amounts involved per season will be corrected, generating the following schedule, according to the report:
– 2023: BRL 210 million
– 2024: BRL 231 million
– 2025: BRL 254 million
– 2026: BRL 279 million
Brax now has the right to go to the market and negotiate with broadcasters and platforms how the Série B broadcast will be. A contract with Band is a possibility, given the proximity between the two companies.
The contract makes Brax guarantee a minimum payment to the clubs. In this first year, it is estimated that each of the 20 participants in Série B will receive around R$ 10 million.
The CBF undertook to cover the expenses with logistics in the competition, which did not happen in previous years. This will make the net value in the hands of clubs around 10% higher than in past seasons, according to estimates by managers.
AGREEMENT LEAGUES
The fact that the agreement involves the years 2025 and 2026 affects the initial plans of the Brazilian football leagues. Both Forte Futebol and Libra had plans to start a combined sale of the rights to Séries A and B from 2025. But both sides thought it best to accept the proposal at the time.
RELIEF
The signing of the contract is a relief for clubs in the face of the uncertainty surrounding Série B. The contract with Globo ended in 2022 and earned R$ 208 million per season.
The renewal carried out by the National Association of Football Clubs (ANCF) did not advance and time was short. The CBF even organized a competition to sell the rights, but it did not attract satisfactory investments. Globo, for example, only signaled with BRL 80 million.
A more recent attempt was to close directly with TV Brasil and Bando, but this hypothesis did not materialize either.
Then, Brax’s proposal appeared, which generated an internal discussion and analysis between the clubs since Tuesday. Today, everyone has embarked on the project.
