The defense of businessman Cleriston Pereira da Cunha, aged 46, who died at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex last Monday (20), requested the Federal Supreme Court (STF) access to the security camera images of the moment the prisoner died.
Cleriston suffered a sudden illness around 10 am, while the prisoners were leaving to sunbathe. The businessman had been in prison for ten months for his alleged involvement in the events of January 8, despite there being no evidence of the accusations made against him by the Federal Public Ministry.
“It is requested that an official report be made urgently to the Management of the Provisional Detention Center II, as well as the VEP – Criminal Execution Court, requesting detailed information about the incident, with images from the courtyard’s security cameras being made available, in fateful moment, which occurred between 9:30 and 10:58 on 11/20/2023, the latter time being the official confirmation of the death, as well as the detailed care report at the time of the incident”, says the request from the lawyer Bruno Azevedo de Souza.
The lawyer also requested the return of the deceased’s belongings, including his cell phone, “since with the death of the defendant, there are no reasons for custody of the property”.
In the end, Bruno Souza also states that he will attach the death certificate to the process as soon as the report from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) is ready, since the current certificate only states that “the cause of death is still under investigation”.
