On the morning of this Thursday, 30th, at the Palácio do Setentrião, the governor Clécio Luís presented a report on the climate crisis faced by Amapá in recent months and the measures adopted by the state government to mitigate the impacts on the population.
During the presentation, the vice-governor was also present. Teles Junior; security secretary José Neto; social assistance secretary Aline Gurgel; Colonel Veríssimo, from the Fire Department; Colonel Adilton, general commander of the PM; infrastructure secretary David Covre and the director of Setrap, Valdinei Amanajás, among others.
Among the problems that affected the population of Amapá this year, Clécio highlighted the drought and concomitant drought, hot spots and fires, increased salinization in the waters of the Amazon River and a greater record of malaria cases, which began in Oiapoque, and extended to other municipalities.
For the governor, success was achieved in all confrontations. In a press conference, he informed that where there was a drought, water tanks and mineral water were provided; In cases of salinization, drinking water was delivered, in addition to testing desalination processes. “With the arrival of the rains, we extinguished almost all fires. According to the CMB-AP, there are only two left, but we continue the confrontation”said the state manager.
Still regarding the fires, videos of some cases were shown, and according to representatives of the Fire Department, most of them were not intentional. Many fire outbreaks are considered culpable, such as when a field worker starts a fire to eliminate small portions of material, but due to an excess of dry organic material in the surrounding area, it ends up getting out of control.
“Everything indicates that these phenomena will continue to occur for at least another three years, due to El Niño. We will be even more prepared; This year our response was satisfactory, whether in fighting fires, in the humanitarian area, or in the area of equipment. It was a good fight,” concluded the governor Clecio.
