Petrobras promoted this Friday (15), the Just Transition and Energy Security forum. Organized in partnership with the Consórcio Amazônia Legal and the Government of the State of Maranhão, the event began in the morning and continued throughout the afternoon, in the events area of Blue Tree Towers, in São Luís (MA), and brought together authorities and experts with the objective of debating energy transition, in addition to topics related to ensuring energy supply, self-sufficiency in oil and gas production in the country and prospects for operations in the Brazilian Equatorial Margin.

The president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, participated in the opening and closing of the event, together with governors from the Consórcio Amazônia Legal. This organization is formed by the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Maranhão, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. The governors of Maranhão, Carlos Brandão; Pará, Hélder Barbalho – who chairs the Amazônia Legal consortium; and from Amapá, Clécio Luís, also confirmed their participation in the forum.

“We are looking at new energies, without giving up oil production, as all future scenarios indicate that the planet will need oil for a long time. Let’s make the energy transition fair in a gradual, responsible and increasing way, seeking diversification. We are producing affordable energy for people, decarbonizing our operations and using our technical knowledge to enter new low-carbon businesses. Perspectives indicate that the Equatorial Margin will be fundamental in this transition, both in terms of new reserves and the decarbonization of operations”, said Jean Paul Prates.

Amapá

To achieve the objectives described by the president, Petrobras continues its oil research activities in the Equatorial Margin, a strip of coast that runs from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte. The company drilled the Pitu Oeste well in the Potiguar Basin, in Rio Grande do Norte, as well as started drilling the Anhangá well, in the same state. “As far as Amapá is concerned, we will discuss oil and gas on the state’s coast, as a new economic matrix to finance a fair energy transition, while maintaining nature conservation”, pondered governor Clécio Luís.
