This Wednesday (22) TV Globo ended the contract with narrator Cleber Machado, 60. The professional had been with the station for 35 years, since 1988.
Cleber was one of the main names on the channel in Rio and used to narrate matches for teams from São Paulo.
In a note, Globo stated that the doors for him remain open.
“His professional history is mixed with Globo’s sports history and, in addition to football, motor racing, basketball, volleyball, athletics, among other sports, he has shown versatility by also acting as a presenter and commentator on TV Globo and Sportv programs and by anchor transmissions of Carnival parades”, quoted the broadcaster.
“A great professional, Cleber has been present at the main national and international sporting events over the last few decades and has contributed to fueling the passion of Brazilians for sport, especially football”, added Globo in the text.
The narrator’s departure occurs at a time when he has been losing ground on the station. In the last World Cup, in Qatar, he was not part of the team that traveled to the host country. Only Galvão Bueno, who ceased to be a narrator on the station, and Luís Roberto, who remains on the channel, narrated the tournament in loco.
During the Cup, Cleber took a shot after showing a video that showed a tribute from Fifa to Galvão for having narrated 12 finals.
“Very good, very beautiful. I also want to congratulate myself, they could send me something like that, it’s the ninth World Cup. Here is the ninth World Cup. I don’t know if it’s worth the distance, but… Send it by mail or bring it here for us,” he said.
In addition to Cleber Machado, this week, Globo also dismissed the narrator Jota Júnior, 72 years old.
