Manaus (AM) — The City of Manaus promotes the reduction between age-grade distortion of schooling of elementary school students, regularly enrolled in teaching units coordinated by the Municipal Secretariat of Manaus (Semed).

Semed develops the “Flow Correction”through the programs “Leave” It is “Accelerate Brazil”, in partnership with the Ayrton Senna Institute. The distortion index “Age-series” is measured by the number of students in a school network who are at least two years behind the ideal teaching stage for their age group.

This data is obtained through the “Education”an action by the Anísio Teixeira National Institute for Educational Studies and Research (Inep), an agency linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC), which allows the collection of individualized information on each student, teacher, class and school in the country, both in the federal and state public networks. municipal and private network.

According to the program coordinator “Accelerate Brazil”at Semed, Denise Costa, the initiative benefits 1,912 students, in 2023, across the entire education network, and details how the programs are essential to encourage the full development of the students involved.

“Our secretariat works with flow correction programs, because it is a MEC determination, that is, this has to be offered by the network. We have had this partnership with the Ayrton Senna Institute since 2014, working for 9 years with ‘Se Liga’ and ‘Acelera Brasil’. Thus, we manage to teach literacy and meet the demands of these students, because if they are in a regular class, they cannot keep up with the pace. When students are in a specific correction class to work on their needs, corrections can be made”

At the São Luiz municipal school, in the Colônia Antônio Aleixo neighborhood, in the east zone, 25 students are assisted by the program “Leave” and 19 fur “Accelerate Brazil”. Professor Francisco Cunha, tutor of the programs in the teaching unit, shares the day-to-day of the classes, emphasizing that the pedagogical work is allied to the diagnosis and the school routine.

“Everything starts with welcoming, then ‘doing at home’. The program has a daily routine and with that we develop these children better. We start, mainly, from a diagnosis, I observe, in addition to the issue of age-grade distortion, there is the issue of social vulnerability, behind the students’ families. There are many cases, such as children who stay with their grandparents, have no father or mother, or the parents work a lot and are unable to keep up. Children often arrive here and we really need to see what they need, in addition to building knowledge”

The highlight of the class is student Ibson Melo, 14, who showed how the program has been essential in transforming his life and opening up opportunities. The student entered school late, aged 12, but still has big dreams.

“This initiative has helped me a lot, because when I got to school I didn’t know how to read and write. Over the time that I participated, I developed my writing, reading, willingness to study and managed to organize myself. Today, I am already literate. I can read and write. I want to be a football player, I like physical education and mathematics”

Concepts

“Acelera Brasil” is a program aimed at students from the 3rd to the 5th year, who already have basic or rudimentary notions of literacy and distortion of at least two years, being divided into four modules. At the end of the year, the student can be accelerated by up to two years.

already the “Leave” is a literacy project, which serves 1st year students (without school life) and 3rd to 5th year non-literate students. Each class has a maximum of 25 students. In addition to the emphasis given to reading, the initiative offers children specific materials that facilitate and qualify learning, as well as promoting students’ self-esteem.
