Manaus (AM) – With the aim of demonstrating the visual language and different techniques used by students from two riverside schools in Manaus City Hall, the Municipal Department of Education (Semed) held the opening of the exhibition “Indigenous peoples: cultures and art”, this Wednesday , 13/9, at the Jungle Warfare Instruction Center (Cigs), where the Doctor Carim Knowledge Center is located. The exhibition continues until October 3rd.
The exhibition is collective and presents works produced during the classes of Semed teacher Vera Carla Souza de Menezes in the subjects of art and religious education, in which objects of knowledge about local and regional culture were addressed in the municipal schools São Sebastião 2 and Paulo Freire, both in the rural area bordering the Tarumã river.
The exhibition is focused on the production of art by indigenous students, focusing on their customs, languages and cultures of different specific ethnicities in the state of Amazonas and the municipality of Manaus.
Much of the art presented by students in different techniques is inspired by the elements of artistic language present in the graphics of the artifacts that are part of the Eco Museu Tarumã collection.
The exhibition also presents two works by the artist and professor Alfredo Araújo with the work “Cacica Teresa Munduruku – Bararicat” and “Cocais Indígenas”.
Alfredo Araújo has been a draftsman and painter since 1985. Graduated from the Liceu de Arte do Amazonas, Esther Mello was a student of Anísio Mello and Moacir Andrade. Among the many awards, highlights include the 7th Brazilian Art Salon in the city of Vaduz, Liechtenstein with second place and the Amazon International Premium.
There are also artisanal works by indigenous people from the Associação das Mulheres Indígenas do Alto Rio Negro (AMARN – Numiã Kurá), which transforms nature into art through indigenous craftsmanship with rich finishing and perfection in the finalization of products, artifacts and decorative accessories.
“This exhibition showcases Amazonian art and culture, through the paintings and canvases of the drawings that are here. And all this production was made from the ethnicities that we have in the Amazon region, so here we have the culture of the Muras, the Tarumãs Indians, the culture of the Mundurukus and other indigenous peoples that are part of the culture of the riverside communities that we have this way”,
explained the general coordinator of Ocas doconhecimento Doutor Carim, Marzílio Pereira.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by 12 students from the Domingos Sávio municipal school. Agatha Sophia Sousa, 8 years old, in 3rd year, was one of them. For the student, the action is curious and really sharpens creativity.
“I found all the handmade pieces to be very creative and beautiful. I also enjoyed this experience of learning more about Amazonian culture in an environment outside the classroom.”
