Director and screenwriter Walter Fernandes Jr. promotes the fifth edition of the course on March 6th, 7th and 8th

Manaus (AM) – The fifth edition of the “Introduction to Cinematographic Direction” course covers, between the 6th and 8th of March, at the Casarão de Ideias Cultural Center, located in the Center, Central-South Zone of Manaus, the topics of film director functions, operation of a film set, decoupage, directorial styles and fundamentals of cinematographic language.

With a limited number of places (only 12), the “Introduction to Film Directing” course is aimed at beginners of any age and will feature a nine-hour certificate at the end of the three days of classes. With an investment of R$ 120, cinema lovers will be able to register via WhatsApp (92) 98288-6162.

For the first time with a night edition, from 6pm to 9pm, classes will be taught by Rio filmmaker Walter Fernandes Jr, based in the capital of Amazonas for nine years. Professor of the last audiovisual production class at the State University of Amazonas (UEA), in 2017, the director and screenwriter has an extensive CV, which includes eight short films, including the award-winning “Graves e Agudos em Construção”.

The story of a construction worker, a prostitute and a boy unhappy with the lack of perspective in their lives garnered honors at major Festivals, such as the “Best Short Film” award at the 14th Cine Del Mar Festival, Best Live Introduction & Best Review at The Indie For You Film Festival 2021, for Best Brazilian Short Film at the 7th edition of the Brazil International Film Festival 2021, for Best Short Film at the Brooklyn International Cinefest and for Público at the Barcelona Fiction Film Festival.

According to Walter Fernandes Jr., who has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication (Advertising), a Cinema Technologist and a Master’s degree in Society and Culture in the Amazon, the objective of the new edition of the theoretical course is to awaken interest in the artistic process of cinema and stimulate a reflection on the importance of audiovisual for society.

“The purpose is to debate the different possibilities of how to observe a film and identify its signs and meanings through knowledge of directing techniques. Furthermore, the idea is to develop the student’s critical sense in relation to audiovisual so that they can watch and make their own films with greater discernment”,

explained.

According to the filmmaker, who has been responsible for several other cultural workshops, including the “Filmmakers in Training” project, it is extremely satisfying to monitor the feedback from students who participate in the project’s editions.

“I’m happy to hear when someone says they’re watching films in a different way, combining emotion with reason. I believe this is the first step towards a more in-depth look at both spectator pleasure and creating or designing more consistent audiovisual products, with more developed concepts. I am sure that all participants in the new edition will leave the classes with many gaps filled in about this segment of the cinema universe”,

he emphasized.
