Christmas parade at Largo de São Sebastião in Manaus

Manaus (AM) – Largo de São Sebastião, framed by the Teatro Amazonas, hosts this Sunday (03), starting at 5pm, the celebration of the Enchanted World of Christmas, an event promoted by the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy. The announcement was made during a press conference, this Thursday (30), at the Palácio da Justiça Cultural Center, in the center of Manaus.

Being one of the most awaited cultural events by the public, the celebration, with the Christmas parade and the presence of Santa Claus, begins a program that includes, in addition to cultural spaces in the central area of ​​Manaus, schools, communities, churches and municipalities.

Just like every year, the Enchanted World of Christmas generates job and income opportunities for culture makers. This year, considering the effects of the severe drought, the Christmas season reinforces the state’s economy, providing more than a thousand direct jobs.

According to the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, Marcos Apolo Muniz, the creators of culture are distributed behind the scenes in the production and decoration of cultural spaces, shows, technical and logistical support, among other essential fronts for the functioning of the cultural production chain.

“The Christmas program generates employment not only for the artistic class, but for many sectors of the creative economy and even other sectors that are directly impacted by our activity. In addition, the economy will also be boosted here in the Center region with visitors who visit the attractions”,

said the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy of Amazonas, Marcos Apolo Muniz.

Free and diverse programming

Aiming to bring artistic attractions closer to the community, this Friday (1st), a performance by the Amazonas Band will be promoted at the Instituto Transformando Vida, in Colônia Antônio Aleixo, east of Manaus. Starting at 7pm, the musicians will perform to the students and the surrounding community, the show “Transforming People to Transform the World”, which features a Christmas repertoire composed of different rhythms practiced by the Amazonas Band.

At Largo de São Sebastião, from December 3rd to 23rd, a weekly program, consisting of 80 music, dance, theater and circus attractions shows, will be taken to the stages of Largo de São Sebastião, Teatro Gebes Medeiros, Teatro da Instacção and Parque Rio Negro. In addition to the state’s artistic bodies, more than 240 artists were hired to meet the demand for spaces.

Still in Largo, the Christmas Fair will bring together 168 local entrepreneurs, distributed across 22 stands, dedicated to the sale of decoration, fashion, crafts and food items.

The artistic bodies are also included in the itinerary of presentations in six churches in the capital, the first of which is the Main Church, Catedral Nossa Senhora da Conceição. On December 6th, at 6pm, the Amazonas Chamber Orchestra (OCA), the Grupo Vocal dos Corpos Artísticos and Madrigal do Amazonas present the Christmas Concert.

The traditional Christmas Tree will be lit on December 8th, being the postcard in Largo de São Sebastião until January 6th, 2024.

In this edition, the public will also see, from the 8th, the Nativity Scene Exhibition, at Casa das Artes, Rua José Clemente, Centro. The initiative is the result of a partnership between the Department of Culture and the Church of São Sebastião. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 5pm to 9pm.

Online scheduling

The Santa Claus Factory, at the Palácio da Justiça Cultural Center, a success in previous editions, returns revamped with playful, interactive environments and the presence of the season’s protagonist, Santa Claus, and his elves, in a true gift factory.

At Teatro Amazonas there will be 13 nights of shows. From the 8th to the 10th and the 13th to the 17th of December, at 7pm, the public will enjoy one of the most traditional productions of the Christmas period, “The Nutcracker and the Enchanted Kingdom of Sweets”. The show will be performed by the cast of Ballet Álvaro Gonçalves, accompanied by Amazonas Filarmônica, Grupo Vocal dos Corpos Artísticos, Madrigal do Amazonas and Coral do Amazonas.

On December 10th, at 11 am, the “Concert children united from Brazil – Christmas 2023” will take place, at Centro Suzuki Amazonas, with the Amazonas Chamber Orchestra. And from December 20th to 23rd, at 7pm, Teatro Amazonas will be the stage for the concert “O Encanto de Natal”, with Amazonas Philharmonic, Guitar Orchestra, Ballet Folklorico and Coral do Amazonas.

Entries to Fábrica do Santa Claus and shows at Teatro Amazonas are made by registering online at the Portal da Cultura (@culturadoam). This Friday (01/12), the first places will be offered for the Santa Claus Factory.

Natal Itinerant, Cetis and municipalities

By decentralizing the actions of the Center of Manaus, communities, municipalities and schools will receive the Enchanted World of Christmas programming.

The shows promoted by students from the Liceu de Artes e Ofício Claudio Santoro will be taken to Natal dos Cetis (Full-Time Education Center) and Natal em Rede, the latter, with online shows broadcast to 22 locations in the interior of the state.

Cetis’ programming, in partnership with the State Department of Education (Seduc), follows the students’ academic year. In Manaus, six units will be included and one in the municipality of Iranduba.

At Christmas, the Municipalities enter the itinerary, Parintins, which starts the program on December 2nd at Bumbódromo, and Envira, with performances at Ceti, schools, the cinema and the municipality’s gymnasium.

Between the 7th and 21st of December, Natal Itinerante, in partnership with the Social Promotion Fund (FPS), will take the traditional Christmas Cart to five communities in the capital. Fanfares, characters and shows from Cia Metamorfose are in the program that starts in the Terra Nova neighborhood, in Campo do Passarinho, North zone.
