Chelsea announce signing of Argentine Enzo Fernández

THE chelsea announced the signing of the Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez, from Benfica, after a day of negotiations between the clubs, with the player being signed for a record 106.8 million pounds (US$131.46 million).
As the transfer window deadline drew to a close, it looked like a deal might not be reached. However, a statement from Benfica confirmed that the purchase was agreed shortly before 8 pm on Tuesday (31).

Benfica’s statement said that the chelsea will pay the release fee for the 22-year-old, who has signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with the London club. Enzo’s arrival raises spending on transfers from chelsea in January alone to more than 300 million pounds.
According to press reports, the chelsea will pay the fee in several installments. “Sport Lisboa e Benfica informed that it reached an agreement with Chelsea FC for the sale of all the rights of the player Enzo Fernández, for an amount of 121 million euros”said the Portuguese club in a statement.
THE Benfica hired fernandez in July 2022 of River Plate, which has a clause that guarantees you 25% of the transfer. He had four goals and seven assists in 29 appearances in all competitions for the Benfica in the 2022-23 season.
fernandez was instrumental in the campaign for Argentina in the conquest of World Cup in Qatar, winning the starting place during the group stage and playing every match, scoring one of the winning goals against Mexico, still in the group stage. The athlete ended the tournament winning the Tournament Young Player Award.
