Palmeiras won the 2023 Brazilian Championship title this Wednesday (6).
With the achievement, which featured gala performances from young Endrick, the team led by the Portuguese Abel Ferreira further isolates itself as the greatest champion of the Brazilian Championship, with 12 victories, becoming national champions for the last 12 years.
Next, among the biggest winners, are Santos and Flamengo, with eight each; Corinthians, with seven; and São Paulo, with six.
In a 2010 resolution, the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) began to consider achievements obtained before 1971, which was considered the starting point of the Brazilian Championship.
The Taça Brasil, played between 1959 and 1968, and the Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Tournament, the former Rio-São Paulo, which included teams besides Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo between 1967 and 1970, were equal to the competition.
In the current straight points format, Palmeiras also finished first in the 2022, 2018 and 2016 editions. In the knockout era since the initial milestone of the Brazilian Championship as we know it until today, it was champion in 1972, 1973, 1993, 1994.
The team also won the national tournament in 1960 and 1967 (Taça Brasil), and in 1967 and 1969 (Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa).
