The Chamber of Deputies has scheduled a formal session for September 1, at 10 am, in honor of the writer Olavo de Carvalho (1947-2022), a reference for the so-called “new right” in Brazil.
The request was submitted by federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) and approved by the acting mayor, Marcos Pereira (Republicanos-SP), on Wednesday (12). The event will take place at the Ulysses Guimarães auditorium.
On the same day, in a location still to be defined in the Chamber, filmmaker Josias Teófilo will launch a photographic book about Olavo, of whom he was a student. The book is entitled “Olavo de Carvalho: The philosopher and his circumstances”, by the publisher Vide Editorial.
“I think it’s very important that the Chamber pay homage to Olavo de Carvalho. Above all, he was a great educator, his courses produced a veritable editorial revolution in the country, hundreds were translated, written, several publishing houses were created by his inspiration. Olavo de Carvalho’s legacy Carvalho is not political, it is cultural”, says Teófilo, who directed the documentary “O Jardim das Aflições”.
