Centrão wants to remove LGBTQIA+ policies from Human Rights – 05/31/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The centrão returned to invest against the Lula government to empty ministries recreated by him after taking office as President of the Republic.

The new target is the Ministry of Human Rights.

Jair Bolsonaro’s PL (Liberal Party) wants to remove the coordination of policies aimed at promoting the rights of LGBTQIA+ people from the portfolio. The proposal was included with the Provisional Measure (MP) that reorganizes the Esplanada dos Ministérios.

The Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeida, protested against the offensive. “It is a deliberate attack on human rights and minorities. We hope that Congress rejects this infamy”, said the head of the folder, in a publication on social networks this Wednesday (31).

In an official note, the ministry says it is “frontally opposed” to the highlight presented in the Chamber of Deputies. “This is a deliberate attack on human rights and minorities in this country, which congressmen cannot accept,” says the text.

“LGBTQIA+ people deserve respect and need to have their own structure that expands the guidelines and guarantees the rights historically neglected in recent years. The MDHC calls on federal deputies to reject this infamy, and that policies and guidelines aimed at promoting human rights of the LGBTQIA+ population are not affected”, he concludes.

The attempt to interfere in the Ministry of Human Rights comes in the wake of a series of defeats by the Lula government over the MP dealing with ministerial restructuring.

If the measure is rejected, the structure of the ministries would return to that of the previous administration, of Jair Bolsonaro. This would force the end of portfolios created in January, such as Indigenous Peoples, Culture, Racial Equality, Transport and Development and Industry.

Faced with the crisis with Congress, President Lula (PT) called a last-minute meeting this Wednesday to discuss the defeats in the Chamber with the core of the government’s political articulation.

Before that, on Tuesday (30), the government released R$ 1.7 billion in parliamentary amendments to try to calm the mood.

Opposition and centrão deputies sent messages to the Planalto Palace that there is dissatisfaction and that they can use the vote on the provisional measure to wall the government. They mainly complain about the delay in releasing amendments, in addition to the slowness in appointments to regional positions.

As shown to Sheetsince last week the mayor has been sending the message to Planalto that the MP runs the risk of not being voted on and losing effect if the government insists on trying to change devices already approved, according to reports from allies.

The reverence, promoted by deputies Simão Pedro (PT) and Emidio de Souza (PT), highlighted the magistrate’s career and was held on Monday night (29). Lewandowski retired last month after 17 years on the court.
