The union centrals decided to carry out a unified act in Cinelândia, in Rio de Janeiro, on Friday (3), in defense of the jobs and labor rights of the more than 44,000 employees of Americanas. The group’s headquarters are in Rio.
According to the entities, there are around 17,000 ongoing labor lawsuits against group companies, representing a total liability of R$ 1.53 billion.
CUT, Força Sindical, CTB and UGT are the union centrals that lead the mobilization.
Federal deputy Luiz Carlos Motta (PL-SP), president of the National Federation of Commerce Workers of São Paulo, says he is studying a way to include mechanisms in the bankruptcy and judicial recovery law that prevent Americanas employees from going years without receiving payment compensation, depending on the outcome of the group’s crisis.
Nilton Souza da Silva, Neco, coordinator of Commerce Workers from Força Sindical and president of Commerce Workers in Porto Alegre, says that the idea is to carry out new protests in municipalities that have Americanas units.
“The idea is to sensitize businessmen, the population and the Brazilian government so that the worst does not happen, which would be the chain effect generated by the unemployment of tens of thousands of workers at Americanas”, he says.
On Monday (30), Luiz Marinho, Minister of Labor, will meet with the union centrals in São Paulo, at Força Sindical headquarters, to deal with the crisis at the retailer.
