Former dean of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Celso de Mello says that the opening ceremony of the Judiciary year at the Court this Wednesday (1st) attested to “the repulsion to the coup intention of radical sectors, of the extreme right and of Bolsonarism”. .

In a message sent to the column and other interlocutors, Celso de Mello says that the speeches by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Minister Rosa Weber, president of the STF, were “exquisite” and revealed the “insanity” of the “scum “, in reference to the coup demonstrators who invaded Brasília on January 8.

At the ceremony, President Lula said that the coup escalation in the country, which culminated with attacks on the headquarters of the three Powers, is the result of disbelief in politics. The petista also praised the court ministers, spoke of courageous decisions and the restoration of harmony between the Powers, in a veiled reference to his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Weber also gave a speech with messages to the coup leaders, whom he called “enemies of freedom”, promised to hold everyone accountable and said that democracy “remains unshakable”.

Celso de Mello also calls the invaders “uncontrolled scum full of rage and savage fury”.

“As for the criminals invading the headquarters of the Three Powers, the high degree of institutional insanity and blatant aversion with which an uncontrolled scum full of rage and savage fury manifested, in a violent and illegitimate way, its totalitarian will and its unworthy contempt for the democratic regime and the status of constitutional freedoms.”

The former dean also points out that the behavior of the “invading horde constitutes the perverse expression of the very serious institutional setback with which radical Bolsonarists intended to pervert, deform and suppress the ethically and politically superior idea of ​​democracy”.

And he says: “They also revealed, in the criminal and destructive work that they perpetrated in the Praça dos Três Poderes […] their true face: that of delinquents and retrograde and reactionary people, who only seek institutional retrogression, who pay, in gestures of undignified submission, shameful reverence to all types of fundamentalism and negationism, who blindly cultivate an irrational hatred , in addition to a profound degree of intolerance, aimed at serving a sordid project of authoritarian power, viscerally harmful to the dominant principle in civilized societies: the untouchable principle of democracy”.
