CBV postpones Superliga game for solution in the Wallace case – 04/14/2023 – Sport

The CBV (Brazilian Volleyball Confederation) decided to change the date of the match between Sada Cruzeiro and São José, for the final stage of the men’s Superliga. The confrontation, which would be this Saturday (15), was postponed to Wednesday (19), at 21h.

The change was the solution found by the Confederation to try to define the imbroglio involving the opposite Wallace. Suspended for 90 days by the Ethics Council of the COB (Olympic Committee of Brazil), he obtained a suspensive effect in the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) of the modality until the judgment of the merits of the appeal. That would free you up to play.

As there is no higher body to appeal and resolve the issue, an impasse has been created and the CBV fears, if Wallace plays, being punished by the COB. The entity sought help from the CBMA (Brazilian Center for Mediation and Arbitration) to try a definitive solution.

At the end of January, the athlete posted a photo on his Instagram account. He was in a shooting club, with a gun in his hand and opened the application’s question box to answer questions from his followers. One of them questioned whether he would use that revolver to shoot the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Wallace responded with the opening poll questioning who would do that.

“The CBV was faced with two conflicting decisions, taken by two independent bodies (Ethics Council of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and STJD), on the case involving the athlete Wallace, from Sada Cruzeiro. Thus, it decided to submit the matter to the Brazilian Center of Mediation and Arbitration (CBMA), an arbitration body with competence for this purpose, as provided for in the statutes of the COB and the CBV”, says a note from the Confederation.

Since Wednesday (12), when the suspensive effect was granted, a political solution to the conflict has been sought. The Ethics Council, an independent body from the COB, does not waive the decision to punish Wallace. Sada Cruzeiro does not accept not having the player on the court and is still protesting the change of date.

“The option for postponement seems like a clear attempt to find loopholes to breach a decision by the competent body to judge the acts of athletes, clubs and federations, which is the Superior Court of Sports Justice. , must be complied with. Sada Cruzeiro expects and trusts a response from the STJD, which is currently being ignored”, said the club.

With the postponement, CBV also buys time for the judgment of the merits of the appeal presented by Cruzeiro and the player. If suspension is also maintained by the sports court (which had initially filed the complaint for not seeing a relationship between the post and the sport), Wallace would be out of the Superliga finals and the problem would end.
