CBJJE opens the season with big Jiu-Jitsu events; see how it went

Last weekend (21st and 22nd), the CBJJE opened its 2023 season with two major events at the Baby Barioni complex, which was reopened after eight years under construction. Modernized, the venue received the São Paulo Cup and the No-Gi World Cup from the Brazilian Sports Jiu-Jitsu Confederation.

At the No-Gi Worlds – no-gi -, the standouts were black belts Yuri Hendrex (PSLPB Cícero Costha) and Yatan Bueno (Dream Arts), champions in the cross-over and heavyweight division, respectively. In addition to the duo, Guilherme Wander (Gracie Barra BH) at ultra heavyweight, Eli Braz (Team Crezio) at super heavyweight, Flavio Junqueira (Alliance) at heavyweight, Bruno Bressan (Checkmat) at light heavyweight, Raul Basílio (Almeida JJ) at middleweight, Alessandro Botelho (Melqui Galvão) at lightweight, Claudiney Xavier (Albertino Team) at featherweight and Welison Nascimento (Melqui Galvão) at light featherweight also shone in the black belt adult male division.

Among the women, Bia Basílio (Almeida JJ) stole the show by winning the light heavyweight title and the cruiser absolute, while Mayra Cantuária (Magal Kan) won the light heavyweight and heavyweight absolute titles at the CBJJE tournament. As for teams, the great champion was Gracie Barra, followed by Alliance in second and DeLariva in third. Checkmat and PSLBP Cícero Costha completed the Top 5.

CBJJE director Yuri Muradi celebrated the success of the events, which brought together great teams, as well as Jiu-Jitsu personalities off the mats: “We had really nice people, like Mica and Melqui Galvão, as well as Fabricio Andrey, Diogo Reis, the legend Wanderlei Silva, who took the team and his son to compete, the vice-president of Palmeiras, among others”, said Yuri, who added: “The São Paulo Cup and the No-Gi World Cup were great, really good “.

São Paulo Cup crowns Raul Basilio

In parallel to the CBJJE No-Gi World Cup, the São Paulo Cup brought together disputes with the kimono and crowned Raul Basílio as the main highlight. With a gala performance, the Almeida JJ black belt – also No-Gi middleweight champion – secured yet another gold, this time in the absolute.

In addition to him, Iranslav Neoral took the absolute cruiser title, while Maysa Ladislau won the women’s openweight division. In an interview after his participation, Raul Basílio praised the high level of the championship.

“The CBJJE is a barn of great athletes, and I believe that for you to reach the top you have to go through these challenges here in Brazil, which are the Confederation championships. The level is very high and I believe that this is just the beginning of many achievements The structure of the championships was also sensational, everything very organized, an easily accessible place… Not to mention the awards, which honor athletes who truly dedicate themselves and work for Jiu-Jitsu. The money from the absolute title will help me a lot” , exalted Raul – Bia Basílio’s brother -, who still projected his season:

Continuing with the 2023 calendar, the next CBJJE events will be the Latin Americano de Jiu-Jitsu, on March 19, in Pouso Alegre (MG), and the BJJ Paulista – Gi & No-Gi -, which will mark the return from the organization to Ginásio Mauro Pinheiro, in Ibirapuera, in São Paulo, on March 25th and 26th.
