CBF increases prize pool; see values by phase

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced this week the prize values of the Brazil’s Cup this year. In addition to a place in the Copa Libertadores, the great champion will receive R$ 70 million, BRL 10 million more than last year. If it competes in all stages of the tournament, the team that lifts the cup can receive up to BRL 91.8 million.
The tournament will be organized into three groups: Serie A clubs (group 1), Serie B (group 2) and Serie C, D and other teams (group 3). Until the second phase, teams from the first two groups earn more in case of classification. In the next stage, the award becomes equal.
The Copa do Brasil has 92 clubs and has participants from all states of the country. In the first phase, 80 teams enter the field for a single game in dispute for a place in the second phase. In addition to the champions of the Copa do Nordeste, Copa Verde and Série B of the Brazilian Championship, the clubs participating in the Libertadores enter the third phase of the competition.
For 2024, the CBF will discard the national ranking of clubs and will use only two criteria to organize the tournament. The first criterion did not change and deals with the 12 places to be granted to clubs that qualify for the Copa Libertadores and for those that become champions of Série B, Copa do Nordeste and Copa Verde, complementing this list of 12 teams with Brasileirão teams, respecting the ranking order.
The other 80 vacancies will be defined from the States. The distribution of vacancies by State will respect the national ranking of the federations. São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, which are the first two in the list of federations, will have six vacancies each. Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and Paraná will have five teams each, while Ceará, Goiás, Santa Catarina, Bahia, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Mato Grosso, Pará and Maranhão will have three representatives. The other states will have only two teams each.
