Caxias Chamber votes today on the admissibility of the impeachment

The City Council of Caxias do Sul will vote today on the admissibility of the application for the opening of the impeachment process of councilor Sandro Fantinel (without party, former Patriot) after xenophobic speech in relation to workers who lived a situation analogous to slavery in wineries in the Serra Gaúcha .

The request can be accepted in a simple majority vote carried out by the 23 councilors of the Legislative. Therefore, the votes of 12 councilors are required for the opening of the process.

Afterwards, a cassation committee formed by three councilors would be drawn, who should define president and rapporteur. The commission will be able to act for 90 days and produce a report that will be delivered to the other parliamentarians.

At the end of the work of the commission and the production of the report, the councilors vote, in plenary, the definitive removal of the mandate of councilor Sandro Fantinel, who was expelled from Patriota, the acronym for which he was elected in 2020.

“Caxias is receptive, the people are hardworking, we welcome everyone. We have 30 different nationalities in Caxias and 600 children from other countries in kindergartens. Caxias was colonized by immigrants. The councilor’s attitude does not represent what the city is”, said the president of the Chamber of Caxias do Sul, José Pascual Dambrós (PSB).

Institutionally, the city’s Legislature, which is also a wine producer, issued a note of repudiation yesterday in relation to the councilor’s speeches. “The City Council of Caxias do Sul is the home of representativeness and respect. Therefore, the Board of Directors does not condone any manifestation of prejudice, discrimination, racism or xenophobia. We apologize to the people of Bahia and to all migrants who felt attacked, emphasizing that they are all very welcome in our Caxias do Sul”, says the note.
