Capitals apply reinforcement of the bivalent against Covid-19 – 04/25/2023 – Health

Capitals such as Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Salvador started applying the bivalent booster dose against Covid-19 for the entire population over 18 years old, after the release of the Ministry of Health released this Monday (24). Already other prefectures, such as Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre and Curitiba, are waiting for more doses to be sent.

In the city of São Paulo, the city hall announced that it will release the vaccine starting this Wednesday (26) for the public aged 50 or over. Management Ricardo Nunes (MDB) claims that he received an additional 161,000 doses to expand immunization.

Rio de Janeiro began the new phase of immunization this Tuesday morning (25). According to the municipal secretary of Health, the expectation is to apply 500 thousand doses of the bivalent this week.

This new phase of the immunization campaign is being released through official city hall channels. In order to be vaccinated, it is only necessary to go to one of the health posts in the city and present an identification document.

Vaccination with the immunizer has been carried out in the municipality since the end of February and was intended for priority groups, such as the elderly aged 60 or over, people and postpartum women, health professionals and people aged 12 and over with comorbidities or with permanent disability.

So far, 693,000 people have already received a booster dose of the bivalent vaccine. For the population over 60, however, the percentage of vaccinated is only 43%. The secretariat did not disclose the index for the other priority groups.

In Salvador, the city hall started at 12:00 this Tuesday the application of the bivalent vaccine in people with 18 years or more.

To receive the vaccine, you must be a resident of the Bahian capital and have taken two previous doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 at least four months ago.

Immunization with the bivalent vaccine, started in February, prioritizes the elderly and quilombola communities.

Since the beginning of this month, the target audience had been expanded and included health professionals, pregnant women, postpartum women and people with comorbidities over 12 years old.

In Recife, the application of the bivalent vaccine began on February 24 for priority audiences. As of this Tuesday, the city started the application for people over 18 years old.

The new target audience has 519,482 people. For those who are vaccinated in malls, it is necessary to schedule via the internet. In cases of immunization at health posts, there is no need to schedule.

The disclosure of vaccination by the city hall of the capital of Pernambuco is made by the social networks of the management, by Mayor João Campos (PSB) and by advertising campaigns.

In Porto Alegre, people over 55 years old will start to receive the bivalent starting this Wednesday. There is still no forecast for the application to the general public – on Monday, the city hall began to publicize the immunization of people with comorbidities from 12 years of age.

In Belo Horizonte, calling new audiences depends on the arrival of more immunizer doses, according to the municipal administration.

“It should be noted that the vaccines are made available by the Ministry of Health, which forward them to the states which, in turn, pass on the doses to the municipalities”, says the city hall, in a note.

The bivalent vaccine has been applied since February 27 for people over 60 years of age and other priority groups such as people with comorbidities aged 12 years or more, pregnant women, mothers, people with permanent disabilities and indigenous people.

In Curitiba, the Municipal Health Department reported that it is still organizing a schedule to call the new public. The folder’s forecast is to disclose the dates by the end of the day through the official channels of the city hall on the internet, such as the website and application.

The call, however, must occur in a staggered manner. At the moment, Curitiba has a balance of 86,000 doses of the bivalent vaccine and the estimate for the new public aged 18 to 59 years is 1 million people. “To meet the new demand, new doses of immunizer will be requested”, informed the secretariat.

Regarding the group that has already been called in Curitiba to receive the bivalent (estimated at 567,229 people in total, such as the elderly and pregnant women, for example), 168,594 doses have been applied so far.
