“Well friends of Channel GB at last”. So Galvão Bueno opened, in a slightly emotional tone, the broadcasts on his YouTube channel, which marks a new phase in the career of the narrator who has played the most games for the Brazilian national team on open TV in World Cups (there were 53).

Canal GB, managed by Play9 (which has youtuber Felipe Neto as one of its partners) began its activities at 6:22 pm, that is, 22 minutes late, with the pre-match between Morocco and Brazil. For the broadcast, Galvão tried to surround himself with regular companions from Globo, who not so long ago left the station after the Qatar Cup. Casagrande, also moved, was beside the narrator, with Zico’s reinforcement in the comments.

A longtime friend of Galvão, Arnaldo Cezar Coelho was vetoed by Globo to participate as an arbitration commentator — Coelho owns a Globo affiliate. The former referee was replaced by the couple Sandro Meira Ricci and Fernanda Colombo, recently fired from the global Central do Apito.

At the beginning of the transmission, there was still an amusing scene, when the split screen showed the game and Galvão playing with various papers and gesticulating for not finding something. But for the rest of the friendly, the split screen —common in the World Cup broadcasts on Cazé TV to show the reaction of commentators and narrators— was little used.

On YouTube, Galvão’s channel will have talk and entertainment programs related to the universe of different sports, not just football. Galvão and his son, Cacá Bueno, five-time Stock Car champion, should share a program about motorsport, for example.

The channel’s first day numbers are encouraging for Galvão and Play9. The number of subscribers, which already exceeded 100,000 on the eve of the premiere, surpassed 500,000 during the match — Galvão was aiming for 1 million, to win a YouTube gold plaque.

And the friendly had a peak of 1.5 million connected devices. Nothing compared to the 6 million of Brazil x Croatia, during the Cup, on Cazé TV, channel of streamer Casimiro Miguel. But enough to happily keep Galvão as a new player in the virtual world, that is, digital.
