The campaign is carried out by ALEAM with institutional support from the Government of Amazonas
For the second consecutive year, the ‘Stop looking at it — Sexual harassment is a crime and you can be jailed‘ is on the streets asking for respect for women. The actions take place at the departure of the boats in the port region of Manaus and also in the city of Parintins (369 kilometers from the capital), the land of the Garantido and Caprichoso oxen.
The campaign is carried out by the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas, through the Special Attorney for Women, and has institutional support from the Government of Amazonas, through the State Tourism Company (Amazonastur), and the Secretariats of Culture and Economy (SEC), Public Security (SSP) and State Public Defender’s Office (DPE).
On Wednesday (28), the teams from the Women’s Attorney’s Office carried out a large haul in the afternoon in Manaus, where the movement of boarding to Tupinambarana Island is gigantic. Sexual harassment, which is a crime against women’s dignity, often happens in the hammocks inside regional boats. The goal is precisely to put an end to this type of practice in travel.
Women, mainly, approved the initiative of the Legislative Power.
“In fact, the campaign is welcome because there is a lot of harassment on the boats that go to Parintins. With this disclosure, the harassers now know that this is a crime and can lead to arrest
”, said 36-year-old Maria do Rosário Silva, a Garantido supporter.
The female blue side also felt contemplated by the Women’s Attorney’s campaign. Aline dos Santos, a 22-year-old university student, said that harassment on means of transport is yet another challenge that women face on a daily basis.
“This crime happens on buses, on app transport, at work, at the fair, in short, almost everywhere. It is necessary to punish those who do not respect women.”
said the Boi Caprichoso fan.

The campaign was created last year at the joint initiative of state deputy Alessandra Campelo (PSC) and deputy Roberto Cidade (União Brasil). This year, the mobilization was reinforced by deputy Mayra Dias (Avante), who is based on Tupinambarana Island.
After the actions in Manaus, the campaign now focuses on Parintins, where information material will be delivered at the Women’s Attorney’s stand in the Turistódromo da Amazonastur (Cathedral Square) and distribution of windscreens to the crowds of the two folk associations around the Bumbódromo over the three days of the festival.
