The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, defended this Tuesday (30) Bill 2.630/2020, called “PL das Fake News”, as a way to reduce violence in schools. The proposal, which awaits a new urgent voting date, has been called “Censorship Bill” by the opposition due to the risks of ending freedom of expression on social networks, with the justification that this censorship could contain attacks and attacks. to schools, which is unfounded.
“This is critical,” Santana said of regulating social media. “The fight against violence in schools is done with intelligence and research on social networks, but also with the approval, by the National Congress, of a law that can regulate digital platforms in the country”, she continued.
“There needs to be mechanisms to regulate, punish and control social networks that, worldwide, try to stimulate fascism, intolerance, hatred, fear, weapons. We need to approve this law that is in the National Congress right now” , insisted Santana, referring to the Fake News PL.
Santana’s statement is in tune with the discourse of other government ministers who are trying to change public opinion in order to overcome resistance to the project.
Since the beginning of the year, the opposition has claimed that the government’s interest in trying to regulate the media and create bodies, pejoratively called “ministries of truth”, is only to silence conservatives and critics of PT public policies, with the support of the Federal Court of Justice.
