The number of employees removed from Caixa Econômica Federal by work accident in 2022 was the highest ever recorded since 2012, points out a survey carried out by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), at the request of the National Federation of Caixa Personnel Associations (Fenae).

EMPTY CHAIR

In all, 524 employees had to leave their posts temporarily last year. Before that, the biggest peak occurred in 2013, with 464 removals.

CHAIR 2

According to the study, 75.4% of employees who had to leave in 2022 did so because of mental health and behavioral problems acquired in the work environment. The high index sparked an alert at Fenae: in 2012, leave caused by psychological issues accounted for only 39.4% of cases.

COMPARISON

The entity also points out that the episodes at Caixa even exceeded the mental illness rate in the entire banking category last year, which was 57.1%, according to data from the INSS (National Institute of Social Security).

EXPLANATION

The management model of former president Pedro Guimarães, who resigned after being accused of sexual harassment by female employees, is pointed out by the president of Fenae, Sergio Takemoto, as one of the possible reasons for his expressive mental illness. “The management of fear and harassment caused illness and suffering among employees,” he says.

EXPLANATION 2

According to Takemoto, the change in management would have brought greater openness to discussing and improving working conditions, but changes still need to be made. “Charging for abusive goals is still a critical point at the bank, causing psychological illness to employees”, he says.

NOTHING OF THAT

Sought, Caixa states, in a note, that the information that the bank had 75.4% of its staff on leave in 2022 due to mental health and behavioral problems is not valid. “The index of absenteeism due to occupational illness at Caixa is the lowest in the banking market in the last three years”, he says.

NOTHING OF THAT 2

“Caixa works to promote the health and quality of life of its employees through the strategic management of actions and programs aimed at its employees. Such actions are focused on preventing absenteeism, on the well-being and health of employees, and with the aim of mobilizing the adoption of healthy habits and awareness of care for a fuller and more balanced life that reduces illness”, he adds.

LETTERS

Writer Itamar Vieira Júnior, columnist for Sheet and author of the bestseller “Torto Arado”, will grace the cover of the new GOL Smiles magazine. In an interview with the publication, he talks about literature and his most recent novel, “Salvar o Fogo”. “I say that I have faith in literature, because literature broadens our horizon, our world. Fiction comes in as a powerful weapon, because it gives us back the possibility of existing”, says Itamar.
