By trip, operation against Lira’s ally was postponed – 01/06/2023 – Panel

The PF (Federal Police) operation launched this Thursday (1st) against allies of the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), was scheduled for May 23, but had to be postponed.

The Panel found that two of the targets were in Miami, in the United States, between the 16th and the 28th of last month, which is why the action was suspended.

With the return of the investigated, it was necessary to organize the teams and prepare the action again.

Parliamentarians allied with Lira questioned the moment in which the action was triggered, a day after the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) escaped a defeat in the Chamber of Deputies. Lula has had difficulty in his relationship with the deputies and, almost, he did not see the provisional measure that structures the ministries of the current administration expire.

On Wednesday (31), the eve of the operation, Lula even signaled that he would meet with Lira to iron out the rough spots. Already late at night, the proposal was approved by 337 in favor and 125 against, but, as the Sheet showed, Lira warned interlocutors at the Planalto Palace that he will not list projects of interest to the government until the deputies assess that there has been an adjustment to the political articulation.

In an interview with GloboNews, the mayor said he did not feel affected by the PF action on Thursday.

“Things are driven by political polarization to ask, ‘why did Twitter come from [senador] Renan [Calheiros], because the operation came two days ago, because there is pressure from the government’. I’m not going to eat that rope, I’m going to stick to receiving and having more accurate information. And each one is responsible for their CPF in this land and in this country, “he said.

One of the search and seizure warrants executed this Thursday is at the address of one of Lira’s closest assistants.

Luciano Cavalcante currently occupies the leadership of the PP in the Chamber and is known in Brasília as one of the politician’s most trusted people, who accompanies him on various agendas and trips. Luciano’s wife, Glaucia, was also Lira’s advisor and appears in the investigation.
