The Butantan Foundation terminated the contract with the Manssur Sociedade de Advogados office, whose objective was to sue press vehicles that provided negative news coverage about the entity and its directors.
As revealed by the Panel, the contract, worth BRL 500,000, was signed on December 22 by the president of the foundation, Dimas Covas. Covas, who was notable for introducing the first vaccine against Covid-19 in the country, made his position available to Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) last Thursday (9).
According to the Foundation’s advisory, the office has already been notified of the termination, and no amount has been disbursed. The decision was taken before the announcement of Covas’ intention to leave.
The president of the entity was at odds with the state government due to a series of suspicions involving his management, such as contracts with signs of overbilling and payment of exorbitant salaries for directors of the agency.
