Brazilians compete in the Weightlifting World Cup aiming for places in Paris 2024 – News of Brazil

Seeking to add points to the classification ranking for the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris (France), the Brazilian team will compete in the Paralympic Weightlifting World Championship, between the 22nd and 30th of August in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). In the competition, which will have the participation of 495 athletes from 78 countries, Brazil will be represented by 23 athletes.
The classification ranking for the Paris Games, which considers a series of international championships disputed between March 2022 and June 2024, will offer eight places per category for next year’s Paralympic mega-event.
The Brazilian athlete with the best ranking in the world ranking is Mariana D’Andrea, who won the Paralympic title at the Tokyo 2020 Games and who appears in second place in the ranking of the category up to 73 kg, for which she competed until the end of 2022 and was world runner-up in 2021, in Tbilisi (Georgia).
Mariana still doesn’t have an international brand in her new category, up to 79 kilos, for which she will compete at the Worlds. But her recent marks in national disputes, which did not give a position in the ranking, for not having international arbitration, would put her in first place if they were held in valid disputes internationally. Mariana lifted 150 kilos in the Second National Phase of the Weightlifting Circuit, at the Paralympic Training Center. The Paris ranking is led by the Nigerian Bose Homolayo (with the 145 kg mark reached in October 2022).
“My goal is to be among the top three in the world in this category up to 79 kilos. So I have a guaranteed spot for the Paralympic Games in Paris in both categories [até 73 quilos e até 79 quilos], being able to choose which one would have more chance of fighting for the gold next year. I feel very prepared for this competition, physically and mentally.”declared the athlete to the Brazilian Paralympic Confederation (CPB).
The athletes who will represent Brazil at the Paralympic Weightlifting World Cup will meet next Thursday (17th) at the Paralympic CT, in São Paulo. The delegation leaves for Dubai early on Friday (18).
