Brazilian team debuts at the U-20 World Cup with defeat to Italy – News of Brazil
[ad_1]
The start of the Brazilian team in the U-20 World Cup, in Argentina, was not nearly as expected. The final score of 3-2 for Italy did not show the dominance of the European team in the first stage, when it scored three goals and wasted many other chances. With the adverse result, Brazil needs to confirm its favoritism against the Dominican Republic and Nigeria. The African team won 2-1 in their debut.
The first half at Malvinas Argentinas Stadium, in Mendoza, was a very poor performance by Brazil. The team led by Ramon Menezes was dominated by Italy, who scored with Prati and Casadei (twice), before the 35th minute. The second goal, scored by Casadei, was decisively missed by goalkeeper Mycael, who missed the goal from a corner kick. The Italians still created other chances to expand.
In the second stage, with a less intense and more tired Italy, Brazil reacted with two goals from Marcos Leonardo, at 27 and 42. However, it did not create a real danger of scoring for the third time.
The opening defeat does not cause so many problems for the classification of the Brazilian team because 16 of the 24 teams go from the first to the second phase of the World Cup. In practice, this means that the top two finishers in each of the six groups advance, in addition to the four best third-placed teams.
Brazil’s next match is against the Dominican Republic, on Wednesday (24th), at 6 pm, again at Malvinas Argentinas.
