João Chianca was thrown by a wave during training in Hawaii
Brazilian surfer João Chianca, better known as ‘Chumbinho’, suffered an accident during training on Sunday (3), in Pipeline, Hawaii, and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The Brazilian tried to do a maneuver, but ended up losing his balance and being thrown into the middle of the wave. Due to the impact of the fall, João ended up unconscious. He was rescued by other surfers who were there. A video posted on social media captured the moment of the fall and rescue.
Despite the scare, João had nothing more serious. According to her brother, surfer and ex-BBB Lucas Chumbo, Chianca is conscious and recovering well.
The World Surf League released a statement about the incident. “Chumbinho was rescued and is receiving care at the hospital in Honolulu, where he is in stable condition,” said the WSL message.
João Chianca is one of the biggest revelations in world surfing. The 23-year-old Rio native occupies fourth place in the WSL rankings and is one of the Brazilian surfers guaranteed a place at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
