Brazilian: São Paulo loses to Botafogo by 2 to 1 – 04/15/2023 – Sport

São Paulo lost to Botafogo by 2-1 in their debut in the Brazilian Championship, this Saturday (15), playing in Rio. The goals were scored by Tiquinho Soares and Eduardo for the home team and by Calleri for the visitors.

The result increases the pressure on Rogério Ceni’s team, eliminated early in the Paulista Championship, by Água Santa, on penalties, and which also comes from a bad result in the Copa do Brasil — a tie against Ituano, by 0 to 0, in Morumbi.

Botafogo started the game better. In addition to the goal by Tiquinho, who headed in a cross from a free kick, just after 3 minutes, he almost increased the score soon after, when Eduardo anticipated goalkeeper Rafael, but kicked it out.

São Paulo, however, reached a tie in their first attack, with Calleri completing, under the goal, Luciano’s cross, in the 14th minute.

From then on, the first half was more balanced, with both teams looking for the goal, but without creating clear chances.

Botafogo tried to regain their offensive momentum on the return of the break. At 5 minutes, Junior Santos almost scored, with a header, but Arboleda managed to save. In the second half, there were chances for both sides.

At 22 minutes, Luiz Henrique, from Botafogo, took off and kicked from outside the area. The ball deflected in the defense and went close to Rafael’s goal. In the next minute, São Paulo mounted a counterattack and Michel Araujo finished well, for Lucas Perri’s defense.

Perri, by the way, made two other good saves. He stopped a strong kick by Caio Paulista and a shot by Marcos Paulo, both from inside the area. So São Paulo had the ball more and was more dangerous.

At the end of the game, however, already at 43, Cuesta crossed from the left and Eduardo deflected with his head to give final numbers to the match and victory to the team from Rio.

São Paulo returns to the field on Tuesday (18), when it receives Puerto Cabello, from Venezuela, at 21:30, for the second round of the Copa Sudamericana. Two days later, at 9 pm, Botafogo receives César Vallejo, from Peru, for the same competition
