Brazilian Olympic Committee honors new members in the Hall of Fame – News of Brazil

Seven former athletes were honored as new members of the Brazilian Olympic Committee Hall of Fame (COB), at a gala event held this Thursday (18th) in São Paulo.
The Brazilian representatives who took the country’s sport to the world left their hands or feet engraved in molds that will be transformed into paintings. The idea is for the tributes to be displayed at the committee’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
The athletes represented Brazil in different sports and times. Are they:
- Manoel dos Santos, swimmer, bronze at the Rome Olympics (1960) in the 100-metre freestyle
- Marcelo Ferreira, sailor, gold at the Atlanta (1996) and Athens (2004) Olympics and bronze at Sydney (2000)
- Renan Dal Zotto, volleyball player, silver medal at the Los Angeles Olympics (1984)
- Walter Carmona, judo fighter, bronze at the Los Angeles Olympics (1984)
- Yane Marques, modern pentathlon athlete, bronze at the London Olympics (2012)
- Ricardo Prado, swimmer, silver at the Los Angeles Olympics (1984)
- Melânia Luz, sprinter three times South American medalist, received a posthumous tribute. She was the first black athlete to compete in the Olympic Games for Brazil. Melânia was part of the delegation that competed in London, in 1948, in the first Olympics after the Second World War
Zagallo receives tribute postponed
Besides them, Mario Jorge Zagallowho had already been elected to the Hall of Fame in 2020, he was also honored.
The former coach of the Brazilian national team, which took the bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, had not been able to leave its mark, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The announcement of the new names was made in 2022, after a meeting of the Evaluation Committee of the Brazilian Olympic Committee.
The COB Hall of Fame was launched in 2018 to immortalize athletes who are part of Brazil’s Olympic history.
