Brazilian Cinema Day: Amazonas is a route for national audiovisual productions

In the last four years, the state has hosted more than eight national productions that have opened opportunities and visibility for local artists.

Manaus (AM) – The Brazilian Cinema Day is celebrated this Monday (06/19), and with advances in the audiovisual sector in the local market, Amazonas has received, in the last four years, more than eight national productions that were recorded in the capital and interior. Cinematographic productions have been opening up opportunities for Amazonian artists, in addition to guaranteeing a source of income and visibility on the national scene.

And with the proposal to train cultural, state and municipal agents, the Ministry of Culture approved the action plan presented by the Government of Amazonas, to receive resources from the Paulo Gustavo Law (Complementary Law No. 195, of July 8, 2022 ).

Amazonas will receive R$ 86.8 million, of which R$ 51.5 million will go to the State and the rest will be divided between the capital and the municipalities.

The Secretary of Culture, Marcos Apolo Muniz, highlighted that the state has been working closely with the Federal Government and with the artistic classes to obtain good results in the application of the law, which will result in positive returns so that artists can finance their independent productions .

“The Paulo Gustavo Law is an achievement of the artistic class, which from the beginning had the articulation of the Government of Amazonas for its approval. It is a fundamental resource for local artists to restructure their activities and resume cultural projects that are at a standstill, in addition to moving the local economy, with the prospect of reaching 30 to 50 thousand cultural workers throughout Amazonas”, he highlighted.

The Law aims to ensure the resumption of artistic and cultural activities in Amazonas that have suffered significantly from the impacts of the Covid19 pandemic.

The actress and BA in Theater from the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA), Isabela Catão, participated in 12 films throughout her career, having played a role in the last three national productions that were recorded in the state.

For Isabela, the Paulo Gustavo Law is an opportunity to believe in the growth of the audiovisual market in Amazonas.

“The Law is a way for us to continue doing what we believe in. We will be able to produce our films, tell our stories, have our own autonomy, it’s incredible. But not just for artists in Manaus, because there are many talented artists in the interior as well. It brings us hope to continue doing our work through art,” she said.

Over the years, Brazilian cinema has been taking shape, changing and producing important works for its cinematographic trajectory. From a miniseries to a movie, Amazonas is also part of this story.

Actress Isabela Catão participated in the last three successful national films that had the region as a backdrop. The film “O Rio do Destino” is an adaptation of the book of short stories by Milton Hatoum, starring actors Daniel de Oliveira and Sophie Charlotte. The film was recorded in Itacoatiara (176 kilometers from Manaus).

Last year, Manaus and the interior of Amazonas received the recordings of “Ricos de Amor 2”, a continuation of the Netflix success. A romantic comedy starring Giovanna Lancelotti and Danilo Mesquita and directed by Bruno Garotti.

The great novelty of “Ricos de Amor 2” was the presence of local and indigenous actors in the cast.

Catão told about the experience of acting with the cast outside the two films, being an actress from the north. She stressed that it was a great learning experience and a milestone for her professional career.

“In ‘The River of Desire’ I played a bride, whose fiance ends up leaving her. In ‘Ricos de Amor’ I play Dona Onça, she is a hostel that is receiving guests and stops the main actor of the film at the entrance of Teatro Amazonas. It was a gift, being able to exchange with these actors who have been on the road for a longer time. We have the opportunity to learn from them, we rehearse, observe and this exchange is beautiful, a gift”, she said.
