Brazilian chef Alessandra Montagne, 41, is the new commander of one of the restaurants at the Louvre Museum, in Paris. The announcement was made by Musiam Paris, owned by Alain Ducasse, winner of the competition to take care of the operation of all the museum’s restaurants over the next ten years.

Carioca from Morro do Vidigal, daughter of a domestic worker, she is the chef at Nosso and Tempero, in the French capital.

“It’s an honor to be selected to create the Louvre’s new gastronomic experience,” wrote Alessandra on her social media. “I warmly thank chef and mentor Alain Ducasse for this wonderful opportunity,” she added.

At just eight days old, Alessandra was handed over by her mother to her paternal grandparents, who raised her in Poté, a small town in the interior of Minas Gerais. The chef migrated to France in 1999 to study French at the Sorbonne University and decided to stay. There, she began her career in gastronomy by hosting dinners and, later, she moved on to the professional kitchen at the Jean Drouant hotel school, where she obtained the Certificate of Professional Competence (CAP) in confectionery and cooking.

In this new stage, she joins bakers Pascal Rigo and Arnaud Chevalier, pastry chef Jessica Prealpato, voted the best in the world in 2019, and Michelin-starred chefs Florent Ladeyn and Viven Durand.

This year, Alessandra launched the book De Rio a Paris, Ma cuisine de Coeur, her first book, in which she tells her story and features French and Brazilian recipes.
