Brazil exposes political message upon arrival for the Cup – 07/05/2023 – The World is a Ball

The Brazilian women’s team arrived in Australia for the World Cup, which starts on the 20th, bringing with it a message regarding women’s human rights.
The plane that transported the delegation, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had two sentences on the outside, in English: “No woman should be forced to cover her head” and “No man should be hanged for saying that”.
Islam preaches that women must wear a veil in public (the best known is the hijab) to cover the head and body. It is a cultural and religious symbol.
In addition to phrases with a political content, the aircraft displayed photos of Iranians Mahsa Amini and Amir Nasr Azadani.
Amini was 22 when she died in September last year in the custody of the moral police in Iran, a predominantly Muslim country, after being arrested on charges of violating the dress code.
Former soccer player Nasr Azadani, 27, arrested while participating in a protest against what happened to Amini and for women’s rights and freedom, was sentenced to 26 years in prison.
In this World Cup, Fifa will allow team captains to wear armbands, previously approved by the entity that governs football in the world, with specific messages –eight in all– that allude to certain causes.
Among them are “United for Inclusion”, “United for Gender Equality” and “United for the End of Violence against Women”.
The “OneLOve” armband, in rainbow colors, a direct reference to LGBTQIA+ rights, was not endorsed by Fifa (as was the case at the Men’s World Cup in Qatar, in 2022), and if any captain uses it, she will be punished with receiving the yellow card.
The Brazilian team, which is commanded by Swedish coach Pia Sundhage and has never won the Cup, will debut in the World Cup on the 24th, against Panama, and will also face France and Jamaica in the group stage.
