Brazil created 2.03 million formal jobs in 2022

Last year, Brazil recorded a positive balance of 2,037,982 formal jobs, the result of 22,648,395 admissions and 20,610,413 dismissals in the accumulated between January and December of last year. The Novo Caged data were released this Tuesday (31) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, in Brasília.

Despite the positive balance, the result is 26.6% lower than that recorded in 2021, when 2,776,733 million formal jobs were created. The total stock of formal jobs in December 2022 reached 42,716,337 jobs.

In the accumulated of 2022, the positive balance was verified in all groups of economic activities, with emphasis on the Services sector, which presented the highest positive balance in the year, with 1,176,502 jobs generated. Commerce (350,110 jobs) had the second highest balance of formal employment in the year, followed by Industry (251,868), with emphasis on the manufacture of leather shoes (13,402) and waste collection (12,656). The Construction sector also had a positive balance (194,444), as well as Agriculture, which had a balance of 65,062 jobs in the year.

The regions with the highest number of vacancies generated throughout the year were the Southeast (978,666), South (309,277), Northeast (385,094), Midwest (231,781) and North (119,141). The states with the highest positive balances were São Paulo (560,986), Rio de Janeiro (194,869) and Minas Gerais (177,996). Those with the lowest positive balance in 2022 were Amapá (5,792), Acre (7,426) and Roraima (7,855).

The real average admission salary for the year (January to December/2022) was R$1,944.17. Compared to the previous year, there was a real reduction of R$ -90.99 in the average admission salary, a variation of -4.47%.

December has a negative balance of jobs

Despite last year’s positive balance, the Brazilian formal labor market recorded a negative balance of 431,011 jobs in December, with 1,382,923 admissions and 1,813,934 dismissals in the period. The reduction reached the five major groups of economic activities and all 27 states, which had job losses in the last month.

In December 2022, the five major groups of economic activities recorded negative balances, with emphasis on Commerce (-17,275 jobs), Agriculture (-36,921), Construction (-74,505), General Industry (-114,246) and Services (-188,064). The Southeast region had the biggest negative balance in the month, with -212,362 jobs, followed by the South (-102,993), Northeast (-52,018), Midwest (-35,740) and North (-27,143). The negative highlights were São Paulo (-151,474), Minas Gerais (-45,761) and Santa Catarina (-39,268).

The average admission salary in December 2022 was BRL 1,915.16. Compared to the previous month, there was a real reduction of -R$ 17.90 in the average admission salary, a variation of around -0.93%.
